Jim Gerard, Fine Art featuring Classic, vintage, contemporary,
race Cars
Art has always been a very important part of my life. I began my formal art training at The College of Wooster in Ohio where I earned a BA degree and an art teaching certificate.
I began teaching fine art at Mayfield
High School in 1976 where for twenty-two years I served as the Art Department
Chairman. After thirty years of a very productive teaching career, I retired
in 2006.
In 1988, my passion for automobiles led me to specialize in
automotive art. I was fortunate to be asked to paint a portrait for Proctor and Gamble of Darrell Waltrip's winning Monte Carlo in the 1989 Daytona 500. This began a series of commission including Lynx Racing of the Toyota Atlantic open wheel series, DSTP Motorsports of the Formula Ford 2000 series, and High Tech Perfomance Trailers.
Along with the racing portaits the past
twenty years has brought many private commissions to my studio which
is located in Mentor, Ohio. My philosophy is unique: "Each car — whether
antique, classic, contemporary, muscle, or race car — has a personality
of its own. It is my goal to capture this uniqueness through vibrant
colors and high
gloss
reflections on its body surfaces and how these surfaces distort the
images reflected in them. I try to make each car portrait a one of a kind
interpretation of the automobile as an important part of our culture."
