Restoration: 1967 Plymouth GTX 426 Hemi Automatic |
 |
 |
We found this incredible, 70K actual miles, unrestored survivor last
year and could not believe how clean it was. Purchased new in New York
by a carpenter who used the car as daily transportation for 4 years
before being put away, this white 1967 Plymouth GTX, with Turbine
Bronze interior still had its original 426 Hemi and original A727 Torqueflite
automatic present, not to mention two original build sheets and a
mountain of other documentation. Manufactured on the last day that
GTX's were built in 1967, we were very surprised to find that when we
removed the engine, with the help of Shepard's Performance in Akron,
Ohio, the original 426 Hemi block had all of the stampings one would
expect to find on a 1967 R0 Super Stock engine. As of this date
(11/9/7), the original engine & transmission have been completely
rebuilt to stock specifications, with all correct 1967 components
present and accounted for. The body is ready for paint, and the trim,
stainless and chrome are finished and ready to go. We would invite any
Mopar enthusiasts or historians to give us any and all information that
would explain why a real Plymouth super stock Hemi would have ended up
in this car on the assembly line???? We hope to have this car completed within
90 days and can't wait for the first test drive!
